TYPES OF WOOD I USE TO MAKE HEADJOINTS

AFRICAN BLACKWOOD

African blackwood, Dalbergia melanoxylon, is an extremely hard wood with a fine grain.

MOPANE

MopaneColophospermum mopane, from Southern Africa is an extremely dense hardwood with a high durability. Reddish brown in colour with dark stripes, this is a beautiful wood with excellent acoustic qualities.

COCUSWOOD

A very dense, dark and reddish hardwood with a dark grain from Cuba and Jamaica, Cocuswood, Brya ebenus, is very durable and relatively easy to work.

PINK IVORY

Pink IvoryBerchemia zeyheri, from South Africa comes in many shades - from bright pink to red to pale brown and fades to mid brown after polishing and general oxidistaion. It is a hard wood with good turning properties and a sweet tone.
